After my flop of creations yesterday I relinquished my cooking skills by cooking up dinners for the week since I work late this week and have appointments 2 days and will not be home another. Alan is a pasta guy so I made some quick things he can throw in the microwave and be happy with. I whipped up some fettuccine alfredo with chicken and broccoli - no I did not make my own alfredo sauce maybe one day I will tackle that one. On my shopping trip this weekend I was in Wal-Mart (I don't always shop there but sometimes certain things I can only get there and some things are just cheaper and let's face it I love a bargain). I was in the pasta aisle only to get jumbo shells because we have a whole side cabinet full of pasta. However, I came across these San Giorgio Pasta Portions.
Boil in a Bag in 3 minutes - no way! They were only $1.60 a box so what did I have to lose? I bought three boxes - I usually don't buy more than one thing when I see something new before trying it, but I figured it is pasta how can you mess it up and I can't always find these things. I tore open a box of ziti (I got curly elbow, ziti and penne) and was excited to find three individual packets woo hoo I scored a good bargain. Knowing that I can never go wrong with pasta, I decided to make two packets figuring Alan can always use the last one for a late night snack. I threw two pouches into the boiling water, set the timer for 3 minutes and fixed the sauce and meat to add in. The timer went off I used tongs to take the pouches out of the water (the box directions said to use a fork but I could just see that one ending badly). I let the water drain off of the pouches for a minute or two, used the tongs to tear the tops off and I indeed had perfect pasta portions! The only downfall that I can see of this is that it says do not use for baking, although you tell me not to do something and I will so that will be my next challenge.
